You Don't Know the Sun!

Delicate Arch, near Moab, UT

Reflections on Primal Quest '06

It's hard to convey how ridiculously unforgiving summer in the deserts of Utah can be. The skies are crystal clear for days on end, with no relief from clouds. Humidity drops down below 10% and temperatures soar above 100 degrees. The instant the sun peeks up above the horizon, it starts to heat the sand and the slickrock, both good absorbers. It's as if a switch is suddenly turned on, and as the sun rises higher the heat only gets more intense.

'09 Adventure Race Plans

Gnome Hunters had their beginning-of-the-year meeting last week, in order to figure out what races we wanted to do this year. The general consensus is that we want to do an expedition level race in the spring, because late summer/fall will be dominated by PQ South Dakota, and isn't likely to have a good selection of 3-4 day races. We settled on the Michigan C2C plus whatever else we can get our hands on through the year.

I'm also less available because I want to collect more media (photos, video) during Dan's race and I'm directing the MNOC event this year. So obviously I'm out for those. That does set the stage for Rick to hopefully not feel like the odd man out.

13th Place at USARA Nationals!

The title says it all!

We didn't find out the results until the banquet at the equestrian center. Our perserverance earned us 13th place out of 81 teams, 61 official finishers.

Also congrats to Wedali for finishing 4th-5th, Midwest for 23rd place, and 24Seven who got one more CP than we did but unfortunately lost a lot of points for being late.
